Chardonnay / Central Otago / NewZealand
The illustrious Mendoza clone Chardonnay was planted 1992 to a gentle east facing slope right next to Block 3. Grapes are whole bunch pressed and gravity fed to seasoned French oak for a wild indigenous yeast vinification. Ferments remain in barrel for a long and languid sixteen months maturation. A multi dimensional Chardonnay in the well established, mouth filling style of Central Otago. The palate is where it all becomes more serious with an array grilled nut and baked goody flavours, the deep schist soils of Block 2 are conspicuous and up front in the lengthy mineral finish.

Riesling / Grampians / Victoria
From a stately bequeath of the original Halls Gap plantings, established 1969 on the inhospitable slopes of the Victorian Grampians. The highly precious, single block of fully mature vines yields a meagre crop of extraordinary Riesling grapes, the parched berries are ripened to perfection by the clear skies and frigid climes, forming an indulgence of profound esters and intense flavours. Gloriously perfumed yet magnificently dry, lustrous and textural to the palate, populated on the tongue with delicate notes of ripe green apple and soft white fruits, citrus rind and sprays of fresh acidity.

Chardonnay / Margaret River / WesternAustralia
Chardonnay vines fare exceptionally well in Margaret River, as appropriate shading yields intensely flavoured fruit with excellent natural acidity. The afternoon sea breezes typical of the region, cap the daytime temperatures and produce cool summer nights for which Margaret River is renowned. The balmy climes encourage ripening of the white varieties as flavour ripeness is achieved at lower Baumes with excellent acid retention. Grapes must be picked from midnight to 7am and are processed separately without delay to preserve quality and freshness.

Gerard Boudot is one of Puligny's most gifted winemakers, married to a granddaughter of the late, great Etienne Sauzet. Although techniques are more modern in the hands of M. Boudot, he faithfully maintains Etienne Sauzet's tradition of hand sorting his fruit before applying the most artisanal effort to small batches of 1er Cru Burgundy. Les Referts is a four hectare site in Puligny that sits lower down the slopes, very close to neighbouring Meursault. Les Folatieres takes it's name from local folklore, which recounts how the slopes around Puligny would come alive on warm summer nights with St Elmo's fire. The distinguished climat of Les Folatieres is the largest of Puligny's Premiere Cru vineyards, it lies near the summit of a slope midway between Meursault and Montrachet, where the elevated mesoclimes impart a juicy minerality to the wine. Domaine Sauzet acquires much of his fruit from the upper reaches of the vineyard, to construct a richly endowed wine of great elegance, intensity and length.

Egon Muller IV is heir to one of Europe's great winemaking dynasties. His father added to the family's portfolio of distinguished old vines by acquiring six acres of the eminent Weingut Le Gallais in Wiltingen. Fruit sourced from the Kupp and Braune Kupp blocks of La Gallais make the most compelling Riesling wines, to rival the profound efforts of the great Scharzhofberger vineyard.

Weingut Egon Muller is arguably the final word in great Riesling wines. Muller makes nothing but Riesling and sources fruit exclusively from two estate properties at Wiltingen, the first growth Scharzhofberg and the prestigious Le Gallais vineyard. One of the most fortuitous winegrowing sites in the Rhineland, it contains two blocks of old vines, Kupp and Braune Kupp, which yield the finest fruit. In some vintages, the Riesling from these splendid sites can rival the grace and complexity of wines grown to the eminent Scharzhofberger Einzellage.

Riesling / Saar / Germany
Scharzhofberger is the most famous vineyard of the Saar. It's stature is so great, that according to German law, it is one of the few wines which may be plainly labelled under it's own name, in much the same way as the Grand Cru of Burgundy. It's distinguished vines, established by the Romans, are husbanded by Germany's most eminent growers. Spätlese means late harvest, but at Egon Muller the term is used for wines made from grapes of superior ripeness. Scharzhofberger Vineyard makes extraordinary wines that defy the normal categories of sweet and dry.

Late picked for sweetness, the quality of fruit which merits bottling as a Spätlese, must show the capacity for extended age and development. Richly sweet when enjoyed as an early wine, Spätlese evolve into a cornucopia of fruit flavours and bottle aged characters. The wines of Scharzhofberger originate from a unique mesoclime between Wiltingen and Oberemmel, separated from the greater Saar district by a small tributary which delineates the elite little precinct. A few hectares of vine, yield Riesling of extraordinary richness, regal splendour and intense, dulcet charm.

The stately vineyard at Scharzhofberger covers some thirty hectares of challenging, steeply sloped terrains, its perfect exposures mark it as an exceptional Riesling site without peer. Egon Muller IV retains a quarter of this invaluable terroir, much of the fruit is allowed to achieve a perilous level of ripeness before harvest. The pick of crop is set aside for bottling as a deeply indulgent Spätlese, endowed with wickedly intense fruit sugars and toothsome esters, to be enjoyed in its youth with the most regal desserts, or after a term of bottle age, alongside consommé and the finest cheese.

Scharzhofberger was likely planted by the Romans. One of the most historically significant vineyards in all Europe, it belonged to the monastery St Marien ad Martyres during the middle ages. It was seized by the French government after the revolution and part of it was passed to the Muller family in 1797. Egon Muller IV makes Spätlese from grapes of superior ripeness.

The timeless terroirs of Scharzhofberg are so exceptional, they were recognized by the ancient Romans and established to viticulture during the conquest of Gaul. The well drained, southern aspects make a Riesling of finely boned structures and understated opulence, Kabinett is a drier style of Egon Muller, alluring for its evocative perfumes, captivating for its sublime elegance and beguiling charm.
